I received an inquiry from Kathleen who really wanted to get back into fishing in the Yukon. She does not have a boat and would like to cast from shore. Can anglers out there suggest some good spots?
I thought of a few but by all means add to the list:
- Pumphouse for Rainbow, Grayling or Char - watch the power lines!
- Hidden Lake Two - for Rainbow and Kokanee with a bobber power bait combo
- Tagish Bridge watch the sea-gulls and the boats!
- Yukon River at the Kayak Park OR the Marsh Lake Bridge for Grayling
- Jackson Lake at the dam or the other little stream intake for Lakers, Rainbow and Grayling
- Haines, Alaska Chilkoot and limited portions of the Chilkat (check http://www.sf.adfg.state.ak.us/region1/weekly/hns.cfm)
- Kathleen River “tourist hole”/bridge for Grayling or Rainbow (catch and release)
I know I am missing about a thousand of them…any other favourites that people can share? The Department of Environment has a great website www.yukonfishing.com and Fishing publications . These resources are a great start.
Good luck and let me know how it goes!
hmmmm….great tips - Kath just showed me the site and we are learning how to post comments. : )
Have a great weekend!
Mclean lake of course! Fun to get into (if you have a car/truck that can handle the rocks and potholes) plus the scenery is outstanding. The little rainbow are full of pop, always leaping out of the water.
