Are You a Wiggler or Wabler?

One of the perks of membership to the Yukon Fish and Game Association, is the subscription to the Outdoor Edge magazine.  This past issue featured a story from an Edmonton writer on Ice Fishing for Lakers at Yukon’s Kathleen Lake.  The writer went out with some experienced Yukon anglers and was set up with some specially rigged Williams Wablers.

I am preparing for a trip to Kathleen Lake later this winter and welcomed the tip. Upon further research (see the video), I noticed this nice Laker was caught on a Gibbs Ruby Eyed Wiggler.  Both were presumably attractive to the lakers for their baitfish appearance.  Fortunately, I have both these lures in my box already and use them frequently trolling in the summer.  I did not think to use them as a prime ice-fishing lure.

To answer your question; I’m a Wiggler - but specifically the #4 One Eyed Wiggler is probably my lure of choice for most lake trout situations. (don’t ice fish much though)

On a side note, isn’t the fish-club in the video a bit of overkill? ;-)

George, I always had you pegged as a one-eye wiggler fan. Personally I like the two eyed, but I think they do the same thing.

Never noticed the crow-bar/bonker before.  That would be overkill but maybe we should give them the benefit of the doubt and they were simply repairing a tire earlier…?

Am I that predictable? LOL

True story, I learned of one-eyed wiggler from an elderly native woman in Carcross growing up. Never had a more productive lure in my life.

If I had to stock my tackle box with only three lures, they would be:

The one-eyed wiggler
The black Panther Martin Spinner - ultimate greyling spinner in my opinion
The Blue Fox Pixie - good trout lure lure and of course the one of the best spoons to throw at all species of salmon.

OK - now back to work - only 5 months or so until soft-water fishing can begin.
